2021 Trends on Refreshing the Kitchen

2021 Trends on Refreshing the Kitchen

Spring is a time of Renewal, Rebirth and Refreshing. Why not start with refreshing the kitchen?

Spring is a time to clean out the cobwebs inside and outside of your home. Subsequently leads to dreams about BBQs and porch parties. With that idea let’s look to see about refreshing the kitchen.

Please take a look around your kitchen. Then ask yourself, “Is there something you would like to change?”

  • Whole Kitchen
  • Cabinets
  • Countertops
  • An appliance
  • Paint the walls
  • Organization

I understand wanting change. With our new old house, I would like to change the whole kitchen. But that would involve a major renovation that includes taking out a wall, which is structural so major work. That will be done at a later time – I am going to dream about it a bit more. So I am going to do a freshen-up with new paint, lighting and cabinet hardware. But I thought I would share some new design trends that help to freshen up the room. If you want to know more about my new house checkout this blog.

2021 trends on Refreshing the Kitchen

  • Two-tone cabinetry ~ For instance: color on bottom cabinets (on trend now is blue or green) and white on top cabinets OR a different color island cabinet from surrounding cabinets
  • Brass accents
  • Statement tile
  • Quartz countertop or marble everything (backsplash and countertop)
  • Ceiling accents ~ For example paint color, architectural molding details and or salvaged materials
  • Deep drawers for pots with integrated pegs to hold in place
  • Open Shelving which means under counter appliances like microwaves
  • Big practical sinks aka Farmhouse Sink

Here are some trends that are sticking around from previous years

  • Subway tile still holding strong
  • White kitchens ~ in short white cabinets, countertops and/or backsplash
  • Polished nickel or chrome
  • Open floor layout
  • Wood floors (or Wood-like)

Here are some pictures of these trends.

Please remember with these new trends…

The most important thing when working with trends is that you must really love the trend. Trends come and go. And it is never fun to be living with a design decision that you don’t love. The second thing to remember when adding a trend to your home is that some are timeless. Often a timeless design just circles back around as a “New” trend because it is being introduced to a new generation of consumers. The last thing is to keep in mind resale when adding trends. Some trends are not for everyone. If you want more ideas check out my Pinterest Board on 2021 Trends.
