“What I did this Summer…”

What I did this Summer

Today is the 100th day in our Summer Adventure. In short, we’re at the end of our 100 Days of Summer. I wanted to write about what I did this summer. It has been a fun summer with all the elements we discussed at the beginning of our Carefully Curated Life Summer Fun Facebook Group Chat. I asked these questions in the 100 Days of Summer Adventure blog. Then we talked about the activities we’d do in our Facebook Group Chat.

Here’s the section from the 100 Days of Summer Adventure Blog

“Starting May 27th and over the next 100 days we’ll:

  • Create outdoor living spaces, kitchens, places to entertain, rooms for guests. Could your summer rooms use a boost?
  • Start a journal to explore our thoughts and ideas. It will be a place to make plans. Also to capture summer activities and adventures. How will you keep your memories of this summer?
  • Spend some time exploring places, hobbies and ideas. Are ready to step out of the house and find new interests?
  • While spending time reconnecting with ourselves, family and friends. Isn’t it time to enjoy the summer sunshine?“

Now I’ll fill in with what I did this summer.

* Create outdoor living spaces, kitchens, places to entertain, rooms for guests. Could your summer rooms use a boost?

Big YES!!!

I created an outdoor living room, front porch sittin’ area and an outdoor dining room. Consequently planning these spaces led me to share ideas on how to designing small porch spaces, Design 101: A Study on Small Porch Spaces. Plus revisited my guest rooms as we had friends come over the 4th of July holiday. As a result I came up with 9 Tips for a Guest Bedrooms.

* Start a journal to explore our thoughts and ideas. It will be a place to make plans. Also to capture summer activities and adventures. How will you keep your memories of this summer?

In My CLJ journal. To clarify, my Curated Life Journal.

My summer quote inspired me to step outside my ‘normal’ and try new ideas. This was one of the journal prompts I shared in our weekly newsletters. If you haven’t joined our newsletter you can sign up here.

My Summer Quote

I planted a porch container in a new way with succulents and sedums. Secondly, I took a moment to note which plants were in the pot. In other words on this day in September I am thankful! So now I know which ones can withstand the winter in the container and which ones I need to re-pot to take indoors.

In addition, I used one of the activity challenges from the weekly newsletter to write down local places to visit, purchase postcards and send them to friends.  My friends loved getting photos of where we can visit when they come!

* Spend some time exploring places, hobbies and ideas. Are ready to step out of the house and find new interests?

Yes, I was ready to explore our new hometown!

Creating SunArt prints using my herbs from the garden was a quick fun project. Afterwards the cards I made from them are beautiful! Furthermore I wrote a blog giving instructions how you can create them too.

I arranged flowers in a vintage milk bottle carrier – a treasure I had inherited. My grandfather had a milk route in the 1930’s. Using one of my favorite summer flowers, the zinnia, then I showed them in For the Love of Zinnias. (*Side note – they are flower arranging classes coming up in the On-line Class Schedule, in short, check it out here.)

I started using my sideboard as a bar cart. It started when I created a 4th of July bourbon bar for friends who came to tour the Bourbon Trail here in Louisville. Then I went on to create a root beer float bar and another fun lemonade bar with different types of bottled lemonade. This is leading me to play with this sideboard (also called a buffet) more often. Usually, the table-scape on the sideboard is decorated for the season.

Our Photo Scavenger Hunt was another newsletter activity I really enjoyed. It made me realize my walks were focused on getting Rosie to walk faster – as I’ve shared she saunters slower than a crawl. LOL. Looking for photos for our hunt made me look around and enjoy my neighborhood as we strolled. Furthermore I didn’t realize how slow we were walking. Here are a few of my pictures.

* While spending time reconnecting with ourselves, family and friends. Isn’t it time to enjoy the summer sunshine?

It has been a fine time to enjoy summer sunshine.

I started doing yoga on my back deck in the mornings. It is a fine way to start the day and beat the heat. Furthermore, I will continue this into the fall.

Friends and family came to visit. Together we explored our area using the activity I talked about above – the fossil beds, Louisville Slugger Museum, Churchill Downs as the sun set, and the Bourbon Trail were a few adventures we shared.

Today is our 100th Day.

These last 100 days were special to me. I enjoyed sharing with you ideas, projects and thoughts. I loved our Facebook Chats! Talking about summer plans, herbs, porches and guest rooms with our CCL family inspired me to try making pickled onions. Now I can’t have kale salad without them chopped on top. Thank you ladies ~ wink.

Please share your 100 Days of Summer memories with us. Also will you please fill out a short questionnaire on our 100 Days of Summer. I’d love to hear from you. Thank you for joining me on this adventure. Let’s raise a glass to summer, Cheers. But please don’t think our adventures are over. Autumn is on it’s way…

Stay tuned for as the adventure continues. And if you haven’t joined the weekly newsletter sign up here. Also to join in on our Facebook Group Monthly Chats, sign up here. I look forward to chatting with you, Bobbi
